Updating eighties kitchen
"When we eliminated the side door we were able to situate the banquette at that end of the kitchen, leaving ample space for the work area," she says."We changed out a small window over the banquette for a larger fixed picture window with two side casements that matched the style of the house."Vidal gave the room personality and purpose by turning it into a breakfast area with plenty of storage space.
So the homeowners hired residential designer Leigha Heydt to give it some curb appeal with a front porch and shingled-cottage style.
And the cabinets are only 10 years old, so they were not worth replacing , cheap though they may be.
Since we chose to rent out our house, we wanted to be realistic about a few things.
"In the breakfast room we wanted to include a custom built-in for display and storage," she says.
"When I suggested that we do the piece in a plaster finish they loved the idea." The built-in has unique and contemporary details such as Moroccan wooden panel doors and open shelving.
